"My sincere thanks go to all CMC Committee Members, Delegates and everybody in the Council of Motor Clubs family, for their enthusiastic assistance and participation over the past year. Most especially, I must thank our incredibly generous secretary Terry Thompson for everything he contributes to CMC, and the enthusiast motoring movement generally. Tony De Luca spends more time and thought than you can imagine on preparations for SECC each year, beginning in January; please help him by determining your Club’s requirements as early as possible. Kay De Luca has given great service as Treasurer, also assisting with taking Committee Meeting Minutes.
Doug Linklater has carefully developed the Membership Secretary’s role over the last few years.
A number of our Committee members need to reduce their activities in 2010 but I am confident that other members will be happy to step forward and assist with the tasks; we are also very thrilled to welcome new members to the Committee.
Regular CMC activities have this year been augmented by our attendance at Motorex, which brought a number of new Club enquiries, and by two discussion forums open to all club members. It is my hope to include up to four more forums in the coming year, alternating between day and evening sessions and possibly visiting other areas of greater Sydney.
The face of CMC is most often represented by our Judging Pool. It is very important to make requests for judges through the Secretary, with at least 2 months’ notice. Judges give their time free of charge but they should be provided with appropriate refreshments and whatever comforts they require in order to bring you the best outcomes.
Shannons Eastern Creek Classic this year was most successful, thanks in particular to greater involvement from Club members in many aspects of the day. A de-brief will be held in February and we would be happy to receive your feedback (in writing) in order to consider all opinions about how we can continue to improve this great event. The support of Shannons, at this and many individual Club events, is appreciated enormously.
National Motoring Heritage Day will be held on Sunday 16 May in 2010. While it would be very nice to have a national sponsor, to assist with media promotion, the best outcome will be achieved by each individual Club’s participation in the day’s activities. Please consider opening your event to other CMC Clubs, if suitable.
This year’s Australian Historic Motoring Federation AGM was held at the Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs. Efforts are being made to improve the profile of AHMF, which includes raising the profile of member Councils (such as CMC). Our regular delegates can assist with this by passing on information from meetings to Club members, and by encouraging them to visit the Website, www.councilofmotorclubs.org.au
The Robert Shannon Foundation has approved several grants to young historic vehicle restorers for this year. CMC NSW put forward the excellent application from Fiat Club of NSW Inc on behalf of Luca Sandrin and we are pleased to announce that he has been one of the successful applicants.
If you are free on the first Tuesday of the month, the OASIS Runs may be just what you need to give your vehicle an extra outing to interesting spots all over Greater Sydney; details are available from Ted De Lissa or on the Website.
Some Clubs are finding it more difficult to arrange regular events, due to the increasing age of members. If your Club would like assistance with this, or any other matter, please contact CMC Committee members at any time and we will try to help you.
Thank you all for great companionship throughout 2009 and best wishes for Christmas. Please take care on the road and make the most of our shared passion for historic motoring in 2010".
